Re-registering: the 6-month window and the date you must not miss

You can start re-registration any time in the 6 months before your registration expires. Start before the expiry date and your current registration stays valid until the Commission decides. Start after it and your registration has lapsed.

Key dates

  • 12 Oct 2026All new re-registration applications start in the new NDIS Commission Portal

Who this affects

Every registered NDIS provider. On the Commission's register, 3,000+ providers reach their end date in the next 6 months.

If your registration lapses — because it expired or you were deregistered — you have to complete another application and audit process. If your business structure changed and you now have a new ABN, it is treated as a new application.

Re-registration has the same steps as the first application: eligibility, evidence that you can deliver the supports, worker screening, a self-assessment against the Practice Standards, an audit, the Commission's review and a decision. You do not have to use the same quality auditor as last time.

Adding or removing registration groups can change the type of audit you need.

Since 12 October 2026, new re-registration applications start in the new NDIS Commission Portal. Applications started in the old portal before then are finished there.

What to do

  1. Find your end date — it is on the Commission's register, and on NDIS Circle's registration check.
  2. Put the date 6 months before it in your calendar, and book an auditor early.
  3. If you plan to add or drop registration groups, decide before you apply — it can change your audit.
